These are two more plein air studies of the Wayside water wheel in preparation for a larger 16x20 painting. Both of these are 8x10. Oil on linen panel.
Friends,
These 9 paintings are for sale. Fully framed for $95 each (plus shipping if needed). Each is framed in a solid wood 3” frame. I choose a frame color based on how it works best with the painting (either mahogany, black, silver or gold depending on what I think looks best).
If you click on the image it is blown up so you can see it better. You’ll also see a caption with the name and the size of painting. They’re all either 6x8 inches or 8x10 inches.

The Attleboro Art Museum has a “what goes around” themed show this spring. I’m planning to do a 16x20 painting of the Wayside water wheel in Sudbury, MA.
Today I began the process by doing a quick plein air study. It turned out to be very quick as its 27 degrees F here today! Wow was it cold. This is the result. 6x8, oil on linen.
I plan to do several more before working full scale.
Moored in hoi an (from the O’Brien Collection). 8x10. Oil on linen. Tom Stearns
Yet another painting working from a photo provided by Shaun and Eileen O’Brien. I labored over this for a long time and I fear it looks that way — labored. Still a bad day painting is still a great day.
Room in Tuscany (from the O’Brien collection). 8x10. Oil on linen. Tom Stearns.
This is another painting working from a photo provided by Shaun and Eileen O’Brien (my brother and sister-in-law). I recently posted how they took off a year and traveled the world taking, literally, thousands of photos. They’ve been kind enough to share them with me. During these dark winter months when plein air painting is difficult and a still life won’t do, I text Eileen for a few photo ideas. She graciously obliges with several options and I paint.
Sunset. 6 x 6. Oil on Board. Tom Stearns
Clementines. 8x10. Oil on Linen Panel. Tom Stearns. More at tom-stearns.com
Pears. 5 x 7. Oil on canvas board.
